Synthetic Graphite

Synthetic graphite - the pros and cons

The main advantage of synthetic graphite is that it provides an alternative source of supply to graphite mines. While this may initially seem like stating the obvious, the importance of this fact is difficult to overstate. The supply of natural graphite is finite and the demand for it is increasing all the time. Resolving this critical situation is of huge importance to many industries. The disadvantages have to be viewed in perspective. Natural graphite can also be cheaper to produce, although again this depends on the details of each specific mine. Deeper deposits of graphite pose more challenges to extract.
