Artificial Graphite

Artificial graphite - an old solution to a very new problem

The process for creating artificial graphite was created, patented and in use long before the invention of portable electronic devices. It actually dates back to the very end of the 19th century. For many decades, however, the largest user of graphite was the steel industry, which required natural graphite and, at this point in time, still does. The portable electronics industry, however, relies upon synthetics and this is the industry which is currently the major force behind the growth in graphite consumption. With the possibilities offered by electric vehicles, the requirement for high-quality synthetics looks set to continue to rise for the foreseeable future.
