Carbon Blacks

Carbon blacks - lightness and strength

One of the most characteristic features of carbon blacks is that they have a very high surface-to-area ratio, in other words they are very light materials. While this gives rise to many of their most desirable properties, such as their conductivity, it can also make them challenging to use and in particular to disperse effectively in an even way. For this reason, it is standard for the manufacturing process to conclude with converting the material into a form which is easier to store, transport and use. This is generally known as pelletization and can be achieved in various ways, which include the use of vacuum rollers, pin pelletizers and stirred tanks.
