Carbon black dispersion - the heavy challenge of a light product

The challenge of carbon black dispersion rests on the fact that the whole reason carbon black works as effectively as it does is because it is a material with a very high surface-to-area ratio. In other words, it is a very light material with low density. Directly after the manufacturing process it is a fluffy, black powder. For practical reasons, including preventing inhalation and making transport easier, carbon black is often converted into pellet form using wax or another bonding agent. In order for carbon black then to be dispersed, these pellets have to be turned back to their original form.
