Zinc Carbon Batteries

SUPER P® conductive carbon black is used in cathode mix of zinc carbon batteries. Zinc carbon is a generic term of the Leclanché or zinc chloride system. The compressed cathode mix comprises manganese dioxide (MnO2), carbon black and electrolyte of ammonium chloride and zinc chloride dissolved in water. SUPER P® conductive carbon black is added to the cathode mix to improve its conductivity, as manganese dioxide is a poor electrical conductor. Carbon black also absorbs electrolyte and provides compressibility and elasticity to the cathode mix.
